The origins of The Pond are shrouded in myth, legend and a little
of the mist that arises when you unlock the valve on an empty 45
gallon keg of draft.
To highlight the key historical events, Once upon a time there
was no Pond. The country was "dry" well theorically and legally
dry. Then in 1962 there was The Ponderosa. A long story but to
keep it simple, Lorne Green okayed the name but never owned shares
in it.
Over the next 45 years people came and went; owners, staff, regulars,
suppliers, drivers, regulators, diners, irregulars, musicians,
supporters, opponents, admires, imitators, competitors, friends,
weirdoes, ordinary folk, a myriad of lost souls and real
outlaws. You know who they are and you know who you are. Which
pretty much brings us up-to-date.
The Pond is still The Pond. It exists in a space that combines
history and heritage, pedigree and potential with a taint of hallowed
property, a twist of haunted memory, the coldest pints and drafts
in town and a lingering echo from just about every man and woman
who has ever come of age in this part of the world. And now you're
in it!
